Brother Chan walks with a pronounced limp because he was hung upside down and beaten severely for his faith in Jesus. His life is more difficult than most Westerners could ever imagine. Yet, I have never seen a face glow as much as his does. The abundant joy he displays is juxtaposed against the grimaces on most other faces in this land of despair. It is one of the starkest contrasts I have ever seen. “How do people not look at him and yearn for what he has?,” I asked my wife.
This elderly saint has been planting “underground” churches for years. He literally wears the countenance of Jesus on his face as he limps from village to village to tend the flocks that God has entrusted to his care.
On one of our visits, a team member told Brother Chan that he would like to buy a scooter for him so he can be more comfortable and efficient in making his rounds. Though grateful, he declined the offer. He told our team member that he could not possibly accept a scooter because he did not want any of his congregants to think he was profiting from the Gospel.
Brother Chan limps on, doing the work of Christ in the way of Christ. Please stand with us to raise up more leaders like this dear saint. Our work and prayer is for his tribe to increase!
